The new Sony Alpha A850 gets launched today. I’ve been testing the camera for the last couple weeks and this this photo shoot is the result of those tests. There’s a bit of everything in here, model shoots, skateboarding, crayfish hunting and landscape. You can read my blog at … thepicturedesk.blogspot.com -Rob Skeoch

this camera has 24mp ._.
You can add a century to how long Zeiss has made lenses. Carl Zeiss opened his optics shop in Germany in 1846.
As with any non-weather-sealed electronics, the key is common sense. Taking your lens out in a light drizzle is fine, especially if you’re careful about keeping it covered when not in use and you allow it to dry fully afterwards.
On the other hand, you’d be mad to try to use the 24-70 in a serious downpour or in conditions where it’s likely to be splashed.
Use your head; if water is going to be pooling or running at joints where it can enter the lens you’re asking for trouble.

good luck reselling and using those lenses when the internals start to rust and fungus starts to creep in
My dad is a pro. photographer as well, and he saw this video and he was amazed with this camera especially Sony is just new to the photography world.he’s not convince on your lighting effect on your studio especially on the portrait of the lady
This camera was my Christmas present… and a few lenses… I have never used a DSLR (or even an SLR) so I have a lot to learn. (Kinda like giving a brand new driver a sports car if you ask me!) Please let me know of a good basic course so I can learn my new camera. I’m doing okay but I’m VERY novice and hacking my way through it.
love the review, but question: why keep the ‘beginner beep’ on? also, when you are shooting the model, is that the 135 f1.8? how big is that lens with the hood on?
My Future Camera
Great
thanx for the review
OMG this camera is amazing full frame more than 24 mp it has 10mp more tha my canon 50d APS-C and it costs $2000 US. I think sony on a few years from now it will be something else in the dslr industry.
great review. you sold me!
does it have live veiw
Google dakar rally sony a900 and you’ll be amazed.
This is from page 168 of the Sony 850 owner’s manual: “This camera is designed to be dust and moisture-resistant but not to be waterproof and splash-proof. When using the camera in the rain, be careful not to get the camera and
lens wet.”
To repeat: YOU CAN’T USE IT IN THE RAIN.
Then you’ve been very lucky, because the Zeiss 24-70 has no weather seals at all.
Really enjoyed your review.
Have shot with A900 and 24-70 in the rain numerous times before. Both operate perfectly today.
Even though the camera body has weather seals, and despite what he says, you can’t “use it in the rain”. Yes, the body should be OK if you’re caught outdoors when the rain begins and it gets a few sprinkles on it. But if you were to actually take it outside and do a shoot in a downpour, you’ll have a ruined camera, guaranteed. Plus, any lens you put on this thing isn’t going to be nearly as weather sealed as the camera body itself, so it’ll get destroyed even sooner.
Thank you very much for posting this and making this huge effort to explain everything in details. Great job.
great vid, would be nice if you could review the fish eye in depth,

Great! Will buy it before end of this month!
